Retaining Walls That Hold
A retaining wall has one job: holding back ground that wants to move. Get it wrong and it bulges, cracks, then comes down, usually after a wet winter when the pressure behind it has nowhere to go.
Most failures come down to the same two things. The wall was built without a proper foundation, or water was allowed to build up behind it with no way out. We deal with both before a single stone goes on: dug down to solid ground, backfilled with free-draining material, and drainage put in where the site needs it.
We build in dry stone, mortared stone or gabion depending on the height, the load and how wet the ground is. We also take on walls that are already leaning or bulging, which is often a rebuild of the failing section rather than the whole run.

Built on Solid Ground
Dug down to a proper foundation, because that's where most failed retaining walls went wrong.
Drainage Sorted
Free-draining backfill and outlets where needed, so water pressure never builds up behind it.
Dry, Wet or Gabion
We pick the build to suit the height, the load and how wet the ground is, not a default method.
Repairs & Rebuilds
Leaning or bulging walls taken back to a sound base and rebuilt, often just the failing section.

Retaining Wall Repairs
A retaining wall rarely fails all at once. It starts leaning, then a section bulges out, then the coping shifts and stone starts dropping. Once it's moving it won't settle back on its own, and it usually gets worse quickly over a wet winter.
We repair leaning, bulging and partially collapsed retaining walls across Derbyshire. In most cases the failing section comes down and goes back up properly, with the foundation and the drainage behind it put right at the same time, rather than the whole run being rebuilt.
If a wall's already down, we'll turn out quickly and get the site safe before anything else. Send us a photo and a postcode and we'll tell you honestly whether it's a repair or a rebuild.
