Paving Laid to Last
Most paving that fails wasn't laid badly on the surface. It failed underneath. A base that was never dug deep enough, bedding that wasn't full, or no fall built in, so water sits on the slabs and works into the joints until things start rocking and lifting.
We dig out to the depth the surface actually needs, which is more for a driveway carrying a car than for a garden path, and lay onto a full bed rather than dabs. Falls are set so surface water runs away from the house, and joints are finished to suit the stone.
We work mainly in natural stone: sandstone, limestone, setts and reclaimed flags, matched to the property. Porcelain and concrete products are fine where the look calls for it, and we'll tell you honestly which is the better buy for what you're after.
Dug Out Properly
Base depth built for the actual use, so a driveway isn't laid to the same spec as a garden path.
Laid on a Full Bed
Full mortar bed under every slab rather than corner dabs, which is what causes rocking later.
Falls & Drainage
Set to run water away from the house, so nothing pools on the surface or sits in the joints.
Stone That Suits
Sandstone, limestone, setts or reclaimed flags, chosen to sit with the property rather than jar.

Patios and Garden Paths
A patio is usually the bit of a garden that gets used most, so it's worth getting the size and position right before anything is laid. Where the sun sits in the afternoon, how it connects to the back door, and whether it needs a step or a low wall to work with the levels all change the finished job.
We lay patios in natural stone, from a small sitting area to a full rear garden, and match into existing paving where there's already something down. Paths, steps and edging are part of the same job rather than an extra.
If the ground slopes or the levels are awkward, that's usually solved with a retaining wall or a bit of terracing, which we build ourselves. One team, one job.
