Natural Stone Cladding for a Luxury Family Home in Belper

A bespoke project using 60 tonnes of gritstone sourced directly from the client’s land

⭐ Project Overview

This project involved creating a fully natural stone-clad exterior for a multi-million-pound family home development in Belper. What made this build unique was the client’s request to use only the stone found on his own surrounding land, ensuring the property blended perfectly with the existing landscape and maintained its natural character.

🏗️ Excavation & Stone Recovery

To meet the client’s brief, our team began by excavating and landscaping sections of the surrounding fields. During this process, we recovered 60 tonnes of undressed gritstone, uncovering enough suitable material to construct the entire cladding by hand.

Every stone was sorted, selected and shaped with minimal dressing, keeping as much natural texture as possible.

🧱 Natural Stone Cladding Using Traditional Techniques

The aim was to create a façade that felt authentic, organic and deeply connected to its setting. To achieve this, we relied on traditional stonework methods:

• Minimal stone dressing

• Maximum use of natural edges and surfaces

• Tight coursing to blend seamlessly with the landscape

• Careful selection to ensure balance and flow across the walls

This approach allowed the home to sit naturally within its environment, using the very stone it stands upon.

🌿 Built-In Features for Modern Living

As part of the project, we integrated several bespoke touches into the cladding, including:

• Recessed planting pockets for decorative greens

• Electrical wiring channels for discreet garden lighting

• Clean, natural transitions between landscape and building structure

These features help merge traditional craftsmanship with the needs of a contemporary luxury home.
